With the change of the seasons is when it's time to air out my quilts and get them ready for storage for the summer months,.or vice a versa .. I hang mine out on a day the air is crisp and fresh, usually mid morning when the sun isn't too strong yet, Then carefully fold them on the bias and put them into a cotton pillowcase. If you always keep your quilts stored the change of seasons is a good time to take them out and refold them a different direction to prevent crease and fold lines and use rolled and crumpled up acid free tissue paper in each fold. I do keep quilts once they are a pillow case in a large colored -not clear_rubbermaid tub, I have never had any problems storing them this way but the tubs are in a normal temperature room, not a hot attic or damp basement. I make a little sachet for each tub of my homemade herbal insect repellent recipe, This works perfect for dresser drawers and closets too--
1/2 cup cedar shavings
1/4 cup of each of dried lavender, lemon verbena, mint, & rosemary a few dried rose buds or petals
2 TBlsp each of whole cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon peel,& bay leaves
2TBlsp of orris root powder
5-10 drops of eseential oil lavender or lemon or cedar or pine
Mix all ingredients together and store in a tightly covered jar for one week
then put into cotton muslin sachet bags or pillows and I place these in the bottom of each tub, and on the floor or on a hanger in my closet and one in each dresser drawer.
Always Quilting,
Teresa
