The Making of a Sampler Quilt

A recent trip out to Lancaster Pennsylvania, I spotted a quilt folded on a rocking chair sitting on a porch as we drove by, I was so inspired by the quilt even though it was just a glance, I knew when I got home I would be headed right to the sewing room,  Yes, it happens just like that!  My first step in the planning process was to choose the colorway, not hard since the quilt I had seen was pretty similar to the colors in Evelyn's Homestead by Betsy Chutchian, so I grabbed a layer cake and laid out every single one.  Then I had to choose the blocks for my sampler, big small? simple or complicated? With so many block ideas available it wasn't hard to find that I like 9 Inch finished blocks and I wanted simple not to complicated or time consuming,  Okay so far so good, now what?  time to choose the setting, straight, diagonal ,on point?  The quilt I had seen was on point with a sashing in between the long rows with a light setting triangles, so that's what I chose. So a simple road map and a plan,  I can't wait to see it finished.
Sometimes it just takes a little inspiration, even when you least expect it to set you off on a new project.  All you need is 1. Inspiration, 2. your favorite colors. 3.a road map to know where you are going and how long it's going to take you to get there!
