Can this Quilt Be saved?

This quilt is quite interesting, it is tied with floss, and there are five layers of old blanket pieces used for batting!, the pieced pinwheels have plaid flannel /wool and the tomato red is cotton, this was for sure a depression era style and utilitarian quilt! and it sure kept someone warm and cozy!
Antique and vintage quilts are really windows into the past, enchanting and utilitarian at the same time but somehow trying to save these precious pieces of days gone by are difficult, especially if they have not been stored properly over time or they have been loved just a little too much. 
Finding creative ways to extend their beauty means making decisions, to cut or not to cut?, recreate or re invent? or simply take it apart?  Whatever the driving force that brings you to make a decision it is final and you have to live with it.  I really hate to cut, but sometimes there is no choice if it is to be saved. the exception being if it is a priceless family heirloom.  Almost always you have to recreate or reinvent it into a mirror of what once was, sometimes making it into a smaller quilt or wall hanging or a framed fragment . this quilt will probably stand a good bath and just a few open seams to repair, lucky for me, I won't be cutting into this one!
